Monthio spins off Sevren, a new European AI lab
Built on years of AI development at Monthio, Sevren is launching with Monthio as its main investor, alongside experienced leaders from the technology, finance, and industrial sectors.
Copenhagen, Denmark – August 26, 2026 – Monthio today announced the launch of Sevren, a new independent European AI lab spun out of the Danish fintech company. The lab builds on years of AI development at Monthio and will focus on open-source technologies with applications beyond financial services. Monthio remains Sevren’s main investor and is joined by an experienced group of founders, executives, and investors from the technology, finance, and industrial sectors. They include Jacob Aarup-Andersen, CEO of Carlsberg; Kim Baroudy, McKinsey Global Head of Technology and AI; Peter Hermann, Partner at Goldman Sachs; Klaus Holse, former executive at SimCorp and Microsoft Europe; Rikke Kjær Nielsen, Partner at EQT Partners; and Mads Aarup Pedersen, Founder and CEO of Monthio and Sevren.
Sevren develops open-source AI technologies and open-source foundation models. Its first technologies, HEIMR and Faberon, are designed to reduce the computing power required to build and run advanced AI models. The lab will operate independently while maintaining close ties with Monthio, where its research originated.

Having built its initial business around credit and affordability assessment, Monthio has expanded its platform to address broader data and intelligence challenges for financial institutions. Sevren emerged from years of developing and applying AI at Monthio and has now been spun off as an independent lab to pursue applications beyond financial services.

Monthio’s Transaction Model will remain within the company and be a central part of the company’s strategy. Developed for financial transactions, the model identifies patterns in transaction data and helps financial institutions gain a clearer understanding of their customers’ financial situations and needs.
The launch of Sevren allows the two companies to focus on distinct areas. Sevren will advance open-source AI technologies for broader applications, while Monthio will continue to develop specialized AI and financial intelligence for banks and other financial institutions.
Monthio has expanded beyond individual credit use cases to provide financial institutions with broader intelligence capabilities. Its platform organizes fragmented financial data into actionable intelligence, helping institutions make better-informed decisions and serve their customers more effectively.
